A Redemption is the return of an investor's principal in a fixed-income security, such as a preferred stock or bond, or the sale of units in a mutual fund. Fixed-income securities are redeemed at par value on the maturity date, and called bonds are redeemed at a premium price above par.

Mutual funds charge an exit load on redemptions before a stipulated period. Exit load is a fee or an amount charged from an investor for exiting or leaving a scheme or the company as an investor.

Different mutual fund schemes have different periods in which they levy exit loads. Exit load is typically charged as a small per cent of the Net Asset Value prevailing at the time when you sell your schemes.
